We Won Xero’s Environmental Impact Award 🌿 — And Here’s What It Means
We’re thrilled (and genuinely humbled) to share some big news: Thrive has won Xero’s Environmental Impact Award.
You might raise an eyebrow and think: “Accountants winning an environmental award?” That’s fair. But this feels like one of the most natural accolades we could ever receive.
Why This Category Matters
Xero is serious about environmental leadership. They’ve committed their own organisation to net zero and give partners free access to tools like Sumday for carbon accounting. That aligns with the idea that tech platforms and accountants together can shape how businesses operate sustainably.
When Xero gives an Environmental Impact award, they’re sending a signal: environmental impact isn’t a niche add-on, it’s becoming a core part of how modern businesses, accountants included, should operate and lead.
What We Did That Helped Us Earn It
We didn’t suddenly pivot to “go green” thinking it might win awards. Sustainability has been baked into our approach from the beginning. A few things that mattered:
-
Specialising in climate tech startups. We’ve chosen to work with the people building real solutions to climate challenges. Supporting them means aligning profits with planet.
-
Building net zero advisory into our services. We help small and medium businesses understand how carbon fits into their operations and how they can act on it without losing commercial footing.
-
Putting our own house in order. From B Corp values to measuring and reducing our internal emissions, we try to be consistent in how we work.
-
Bridging tech and accounting. We believe accountants should be fluent in tools, data, modelling and narrative. Sustainability reporting, carbon accounting and impact forecasting all sit at the intersection of tech and finance, and we lean into that.
Why This Feels Right for Thrive
This award isn’t just a trophy. It’s validation of a deliberate choice we’ve made. It proves that:
-
Impact and growth don’t have to be at odds.
-
Accountants can lead, not follow, in shaping how business responds to the climate crisis.
-
When you couple purpose with rigour, you build something meaningful as well as profitable.
More than that, when Xero recognises you in this way it points to something broader. The future of accounting is about impact as much as it is about numbers.
To the Team, Clients and Community — Thank You
This award belongs to Thrive but not to us alone. To the Thrive team: thank you for doing the hard, incremental work every day. To our clients: thank you for trusting us to talk about money and climate and being open to doing both well. To our community: thank you for believing that business can be a force for good.
What’s Next
Winning this is a milestone, not a finish line. Going forward we will:
-
Deepen our carbon and sustainability advisory tools.
-
Encourage more clients to embed impact into their financial strategy.
-
Continue measuring, improving and openly sharing what we learn.
If you’re curious about how this award fits into our bigger story or want to explore how your business can embrace sustainability in a genuine way, get in touch. We’d love to share what we’ve learned.
